Regulation (EU) 2018/848 on organic production and labeling of organic products came into force on January 1, 2022. Hence the certification bodies (CBs) and operators under the EU equivalence scheme need to transition to Regulation (EU) 2018/848 by December 31, 2024. The secondary legislation was developed in the following years, with the last secondary regulations published in the EU Official Journal on 29 December 2021. So far, the secondary legislation consists of all Delegated Regulations and other Implementing Regulations.

Therefore, the rules will be exactly the same for a producer inside or outside the EU. This means that third-country CB organic standards (e.g. “IOS” – “INDOCERT Organic Standard”) will no longer apply and will be replaced by compliance with the new regulation.

So INDOCERT as well as all our EU-certified operators need to switch your EU certification program from EU equivalence to EU compliance.
